ABout The Author

Author, educator, and genealogist Latonya Gordon is a South Carolina native. Faith and family are the center of her life. Ms. Gordon is a product of South Carolina public schools and continued her education at colleges and universities in the state. After 29 years of teaching, she continues to build and develop lifelong readers among her 9th Grade English I and 8th Grade English Language Arts students.

Throughout the years, she has served on many committees and teams. Currently, she serves as the Grade Level Chair for the 8th-grade team. Through her diligence, she has received the following awards: the Pee Dee Area’s Distinguished Reading Teacher, Teacher of the Year, and First Bank’s Out of This World Educator.

When she is not teaching, she can be found at church on Sunday mornings. She takes to heart the verse Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

With God’s strength and the support of family and friends, she has authored nine books. The first two are Christian faith-based, and her other literary works span multiple genres. Her love of preserving cultural history is evident in her speeches, spoken word poetry, short stories, and other printed works.

She lives by the historical philosophy: “How will you know where to go if you do not know where you have been?” Latonya Gordon walks in faith, tiptoes in history, and marches to share with anyone who is willing to listen.
